X rolls out AI-driven custom feeds powered by Grok:

X has introduced a new feature called Grok-powered Custom Timelines, signaling a major shift toward AI-personalized content. Similar to trends seen on Bluesky, the platform is now using artificial intelligence to create tailored feeds focused on more than 75 different topics. Users can explore these curated timelines and pin their favorites directly to their home screen for quick access.

The company describes this as one of its most significant updates yet, emphasizing that the AI doesn’t just organize content—it actively personalizes feeds based on individual user behavior and interests.

This rollout comes alongside the decision to shut down X Communities, a feature that once allowed users to form topic-based groups but has seen declining engagement over time.

According to X’s head of product, Nikita Bier, the custom timelines perform best when they align with topics users already interact with. Unlike traditional systems that rely on hashtags or keywords, Grok analyzes the full context of posts, interprets their meaning, and assigns topic labels accordingly.

This advanced capability is powered by AI models from xAI, which acquired X last year, further integrating the two platforms.

At launch, the feature is limited to Premium subscribers using iOS devices, though Android support is expected soon. All tiers of X’s Premium subscription will have access to these AI-curated timelines.
