Srinivasa Reddy Kandi: TikTok Introduces ‘Campus Hub’ With Student Chats and University Feeds

TikTok Introduces ‘Campus Hub’ With Student Chats and University Feeds:

TikTok is rolling out a new feature called “Campus Hub,” aimed at helping college students stay connected with their university communities through dedicated group chats and personalized campus feeds.

The feature expands on TikTok’s existing campus verification system, launched last year, which allows users to link their college to their profile and discover other students from the same institution. The verification program operates through TikTok’s partnership with UNiDAYS and currently supports more than 6,000 universities.

Once students verify their enrollment, they gain access to a private campus hub tailored to their school. Inside the hub, students can join or create group chats with up to 300 verified classmates. TikTok says these chats are designed to help students stay connected over the summer, organize meetups, plan events, or continue conversations outside the classroom.

The company also introduced personalized college feeds that showcase posts from verified students as well as university-related content. These feeds are intended to keep students informed about campus culture, trends, and updates even when they are away from school.

The new features signal TikTok’s growing interest in becoming a central communication platform for students — potentially competing with apps like Discord, Facebook Messenger, and Instagram for class discussions, club coordination, and campus social interaction.

TikTok’s approach also echoes the early days of Facebook, when the platform originally focused on college networks and required users to register with university email addresses.

Meanwhile, Instagram has also been pushing deeper into campus networking. Last year, the Meta-owned platform launched a similar feature allowing U.S. students to display their college affiliation on their profiles and browse fellow students from their universities.
