Srinivasa Reddy Kandi: Ryan Roslansky steps down as LinkedIn chief, hands reins to Dan Shapero

Ryan Roslansky steps down as LinkedIn chief, hands reins to Dan Shapero

After six years leading LinkedIn, CEO Ryan Roslansky has stepped down, with Chief Operating Officer Dan Shapero immediately taking over the role.

Roslansky’s journey with LinkedIn spans more than a decade. He joined the company in 2009 as one of the early hires under then-CEO Jeff Weiner and went on to hold multiple leadership roles across the organization before becoming CEO in June 2020, during a period of significant global workforce disruption. LinkedIn had already been acquired by Microsoft in 2016, further shaping its trajectory.

During his leadership, LinkedIn experienced substantial growth. The platform expanded from around 700 million users and $8 billion in annual revenue to over 1.3 billion members and more than $17 billion in revenue.

A key part of this growth came from reshaping LinkedIn’s identity. Under Roslansky, the platform evolved beyond a traditional job-search site into a more dynamic social network, where professionals share insights, personal stories, and career advice—sometimes in highly emotional formats that have sparked mixed reactions among users.

Despite stepping down as CEO, Roslansky isn’t leaving the broader ecosystem. He continues to serve as an executive vice president at Microsoft and indicated that his responsibilities within the company are set to expand, with Shapero now reporting directly to him.
