Srinivasa Reddy Kandi: Nothing Launches ‘Essential Voice’—An AI Dictation Tool Built Into Its Phones

Nothing Launches ‘Essential Voice’—An AI Dictation Tool Built Into Its Phones:

Nothing has introduced a new AI-powered dictation feature called Essential Voice, entering a rapidly growing space of voice-to-text tools.
Similar to existing apps like Wispr Flow, Superwhisper, Willow, and Monologue, Essential Voice converts spoken words into well-structured text across apps, automatically removing filler words such as “um” and “ah.” It also allows users to create custom voice shortcuts for frequently used phrases, links, or templates—for example, assigning a shortcut like “my address” to insert a full address instantly.

Currently, the feature is available on the Nothing Phone (3), with rollout planned for the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro later this month and the Nothing Phone (4a) next month. Users can activate it via the dedicated Essential key on supported devices or directly through the keyboard.

Essential Voice also includes built-in translation capabilities, supporting more than 100 languages at launch. Future updates are expected to add app-specific customization, allowing users to adjust the tone of AI-generated text depending on context, such as professional or casual communication.

One of its standout aspects is system-level integration, making it more seamless than many standalone apps. This approach mirrors recent developments like Google’s offline dictation tools, suggesting that deeper OS-level AI features could become more common across devices in the near future.
