Srinivasa Reddy Kandi: Meta AI App Surges to Top 5 on App Store Following Muse Spark Launch

Meta AI App Surges to Top 5 on App Store Following Muse Spark Launch:

Meta’s AI app has experienced a sharp rise in popularity after the launch of its latest AI model, Muse Spark, marking a strong start under the leadership of Alexandr Wang, head of Meta’s Superintelligence Labs.

According to data from Appfigures, the Meta AI app jumped from No. 57 to No. 5 on the U.S. App Store within a day of the model’s release, indicating a significant surge in downloads. Sensor Tower reported that U.S. iOS downloads reached approximately 46,000 on April 8, 2026—an 87% increase compared to the previous day. Android downloads in the U.S. saw a smaller rise of about 3% during the same period.

Muse Spark represents a major upgrade over Meta’s earlier Llama 4 models and is part of the company’s broader effort to compete with leading AI players like OpenAI and Anthropic. Meta has invested heavily in this push, including a $14.3 billion investment in Scale AI and aggressive hiring of AI talent.

The new model supports multimodal inputs such as voice, text, and images, and is designed to handle a wide range of tasks—from answering complex questions in science and math to assisting with health-related queries. It also introduces capabilities like visual coding, enabling users to generate websites and mini-games from simple prompts. Additionally, Meta AI can deploy multiple subagents to process user requests more efficiently.

Alongside the model rollout, Meta refreshed the design of its AI app and website, adding features that allow users to switch between different modes based on their needs. The company plans to expand Muse Spark’s availability to platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, and its AI-powered glasses in the coming weeks.

Despite its rapid climb, Meta AI still trails behind top competitors on the App Store, including ChatGPT, Claude, and Google Gemini. However, Alexandr Wang noted that the app’s growth is ongoing, signaling continued momentum in Meta’s AI ambitions.
