Chrome Gets Smarter with Reusable AI “Skills” Powered by Gemini:

Google is expanding the AI capabilities of its Google Chrome browser with a new feature called Skills, designed to help users save and reuse their favorite AI workflows across different web pages.
The feature builds on Chrome’s integration with Gemini, allowing users to go beyond one-time prompts. With Skills, users can store frequently used AI instructions and activate them instantly—eliminating the need to repeatedly type the same prompts.
For example, if someone regularly asks for vegan alternatives while browsing recipes, they can save that prompt as a Skill and apply it across multiple websites with a single click.

Users can create Skills directly from their Gemini chat history. Once saved, these can be triggered by typing a forward slash (/) or using the plus (+) button within the browser. The selected Skill can then run on the current webpage or even across multiple open tabs.

Early testing shows that users are applying Skills in areas like health and wellness (e.g., calculating protein intake), shopping comparisons, and summarizing long documents—making everyday browsing more efficient.
To make onboarding easier, Google is also introducing a Skills library, offering pre-built workflows for tasks such as productivity, budgeting, shopping, and recipes. Users can adopt these ready-made Skills and further customize them based on their preferences.

This update comes as competition intensifies in the AI-powered browser space, with companies like OpenAI, Perplexity, and The Browser Company introducing their own intelligent browsing tools.
