A Complete Guide to Registering an Employer my USCIS Account
Employers aiming to hire highly skilled foreign professionals through the H-1B visa program are required to register with my USCIS to establish a "registrant" account. This account is crucial for electronic registration and serves as a vital component of the H-1B application process. By creating a USCIS online registrant account, employers can submit their registrations for the H-1B lottery electronically and monitor their status. Regardless of whether employers choose to handle their registrations independently or collaborate with an attorney, possessing a USCIS registrant account is mandatory.
When can an Employer Create a USCIS Account?
For the upcoming H-1B registration period in March 2025, employers are permitted to set up their USCIS accounts at this time.
How does an Employer Create a USCIS Account?
To initiate the process, visit my.uscis.gov. In the upper right corner, hover over the dropdown arrow next to “Sign In” and select “Create Account.” Input the email address of the individual responsible for managing the account. It is important to use a unique email address that is not shared. While one person can act as the authorized signatory for multiple entities or employers, each entity or employer must have its own distinct email address and my USCIS account.
Re-enter the email address and click “Sign Up.”
The system will prompt you to create a password, which you must enter and confirm. Passwords can include letters, numbers, and special characters, and must be between 8 and 64 characters in length.
Next, the Two-Step Verification Method page will appear. USCIS implements a two-step verification process to enhance the security of my USCIS accounts. Each time you log in, you will need to enter a short verification code in addition to your password. You can select your preferred method for receiving this code at this stage. The system will then request a password reset. If you ever need to reset your password, you will be required to select five security questions that will help verify your identity.
IMPORTANT: The subsequent page will present the account type options, where you can choose from three different account types. It is essential to select “I am an H-1B registrant.” Avoid selecting the account for an applicant, petitioner, or requestor. It is crucial to ensure the correct account type is chosen to register prospective employees in the H-1B lottery. You must select “I am an H-1B registrant” at this stage.
If you are collaborating with an attorney for your company’s registrations, please pause here until the attorney provides you with a representative passcode during the filing window.
What are the Dates for the H-1B Registration Window This Year?
The initial registration period for the H-1B cap for the fiscal year 2026 will commence at noon Eastern on March 7 and conclude at noon Eastern on March 24, 2025.
Your attorney will collect the necessary information for each prospective employee your company plans to register. They will utilize their own my USCIS account to start the registration process. All prospective employees can be entered simultaneously or in multiple batches throughout the filing window. Employers working with an attorney do not need to input any information regarding the prospective employees.
How Does an Employer Complete the Registration When Collaborating with an Attorney?
From March 7th to March 24th, your attorney will input all required information into the system for each prospective employee being registered. The attorney will then provide you with a “representative passcode.”
The employer will log back into their USCIS account using the previously selected password and two-factor authentication process. Once logged in, click on the “Enter representative passcode” button. Do NOT select “File a registration,” as this may lead to duplication.
