India’s wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson is facing uncertainty regarding his participation in the 2025 Champions Trophy, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly displeased with his absence from the Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he was expected to represent Kerala. Samson’s unavailability for the 50-over domestic tournament has raised concerns among the BCCI, as the board has made it mandatory for players to feature in domestic cricket to be considered for selection in the Indian team.

Following India’s underwhelming performance on the recent Test tour of Australia, where several senior players failed to deliver, the BCCI and selectors have stressed the importance of participation in domestic cricket. To this end, the board had hoped that players involved in India’s international assignments, including the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, would play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy to maintain match fitness and form. However, Samson chose to skip the tournament, which saw Kerala eliminated in the group stage, with Salman Nazir stepping up to lead the team in his absence.

The Kerala Cricket Association confirmed that Samson had communicated his unavailability for the preparatory camp leading into the Vijay Hazare Trophy, further fueling the BCCI’s disappointment. With the Champions Trophy looming, Samson’s absence from key domestic fixtures could impact his chances of representing India in the prestigious 2025 tournament, unless the situation changes in the coming months.
